Another Linebacker Visiting
Patriots Insider Staff

Adam Seward, LB, (6-2,248), UNLV

Seward is scheduled to have a private workout with the Patriots who are looking for someone to help them add depth at the linebacker position. Now that it appears probable veteran inside linebacker Tedy Bruschi will not return for the 2005 season, the team will need to add some depth at the position.

Seward, listed as a top 10 inside linebacker, will get a good long look by the Patriots personnel department. The team has already had in other 2005 draft prospects at the position, as well as free agent Monty Beisel of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Seward, who may not have all the physical skills of other backers, has the kind of toughness and intelligence the Patriots typically look for in a payer. Similar to Bruschi, Seward understands where plays are going, and while not always taking on the blocker, will work to get to the ball.

From his official bio: "The most prolific tackler in school history" and "The first UNLV LB to be named first team all-league since 1994"

College Football News has this to say about Seward: "There are few better middle linebackers than Seward"

And in a 2003 Interview with the Las Vegas Sun Seward spoke about his late entry into high school football. "My first year of playing football in pads was in the seventh grade," said Seward, who was a Nevada state prep heavyweight wrestling champion at Bonanza. "I didn't really know where I wanted to play. It was weird. I wanted to run the ball."

Looking at his resume, it becomes apparent that Seward is a blue-collar player, who's hustle earned him accolades in the Mountain West Conference.

Seward is the second MWC player the Patriots have decided to bring in for a visit. Former Utah Ute, Sione Pouha, DT, (6-3, 325) was scheduled for a visit this week. (See related news)

The Patriots have already talked to Florid LB, Channing Crowder, and Georgia's Odell Thurman. Seward would likely be a second round selection as Scout.com's TFY Draft Preview rates his stock 8th overall behind the likes of Ahmad Brooks, Odell Thurman, Barrett Ruud, Lance Mitchell, Marcus Lawrence, Abdul Hodge and Lionel Turner.
